What's in a name? Everything.
The word "design" in our name means we consider all aspects of our projects - from what it looks and feels like to users; to how it's constructed; to its desired life-cycle; to how it is maintained over the long-term.
The word “studio” in our name describes the culture of collaboration we operate within our daily office interactions as we solve problems for our clients and create landscapes and community spaces of distinction.
WDSLA's work focuses on creating spaces for people to connect with each other and their environment. Our tagline 'designed to connect' reflects our understanding that, whether or not we're able to acknowledge it, each of us carries an innate need to connect with others. Human connection and personal interaction.
Our design approach leverages elements like form, function, scale, proportion, texture, color, sound, and even smell to do this. Our experience studying human behavior is integrated with this approach. Some projects bring with them elements that make this integration simpler - a park, for instance, where group activities naturally bring people together. But even mundane experiences like walking from your car through a parking lot to the grocery store can be greatly enhanced by implementing these elements carefully with consideration for how they make you feel.
We see opportunities for landscape architecture and urban design to enhance connection in both the exciting and the mundane. Each space has the power to connect. Our job is to help make that happen for you.
