LEARN

WDSLA uses the word LEARN to describe projects that provide the backbone for community education. Like our GATHER projects, designs in this category require a focus on delivering the best and highest uses for public & private funding, balancing capitol investment and long-term maintenance costs, while enhancing or creating a unique identity for communities to connect through education.

Key design fundamentals within this category include:

  • Public and Private educational institutions exist to serve their constituents

  • Landscapes should facilitate access to the institutions

  • Landscapes should be timeless, not trendy; to reflect value in long-term investment

  • Landscapes should be efficient in all aspects – from construction to maintenance

  • Educational facilities most often serve the community's youth. The landscape can represent an example of both appropriate implementation of sound environmentally responsible design solutions and inspiration and pride for the facility and student community.
